Spring breaks with children's healthy food

The Talbot Inn

We want to go away for a couple of nights this spring but would really like to find somewhere doing healthy food for the under-fives - not the usual chicken nugget nightmare.

The Talbot Inn in Ripley, Surrey, has an incredible children's menu and rooms from just ¬£89 per night in the spring. The 15th century Inn has just been restored and the revamped restaurant has a special children's menu called ‛Proper Food for Small People'. Highlights include healthy versions of dishes such as Pan fried chicken breast with green beans and mashed potatoes, Mini fish & chips with peas and tomato sauce, or Grilled sausages with broccoli and onion sauce. Two great favourites are Ham and cheese ciabatta pizza with mixed leaf salad, and Macaroni cheese with fresh tomato. Delicious puddings with a grown up taste include Vanilla rice pudding with strawberry jam as well as a selection of ice creams and fresh fruit salad. The adult menu includes many modern British classics under the supervision of Michelin-star executive chef Rob Clayton, previously at the luxurious Bath Priory Hotel. Along with many new and old world wines, the wine list features the famous Chateau Talbot from St Julien, Bordeaux.

A three course meal is an average of ¬£28, set Sunday lunch ¬£15.95 or ¬£19.95, while ‛Proper Food for Little People' is a healthy children's choice at ¬£6.00 or ¬£8.75. Everything is freshly prepared from many locally sourced ingredients.

Wisley Gardens, Hampton Court, Windsor Castle, the excellent theatres in Woking and Chessington World of Adventures are all within easy reach, making the Talbot Inn ideal for a short family break outside London, almost in the countryside. Visit www.thetalbotinn.com.
