Have a Look at This!

In The Pink!

in the pink beauty

Who says you have to say goodbye to all things pink and sparkly when your little girl outgrows her Sleeping Beauty costume (sniff!) and aspirations to be Angelina Ballerina? I still have a weakness for the shamelessly girlie shade and the pink proof is everywhere - from the rubberised cover on my mobile phone (which my husband whips off whenever he borrows it) to my school run sneakers and penchant for fuchsia plastic party-ware. Like many of my (officially grown-up, although I'm not sure we feel it) girlfriends, I find a ‛pop' of pink - often in unexpected places - fun, funky and instantly spirit-lifting.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, there's never been a better excuse to splash out on some fantastically pink (and, yippee, often sparkly!) beauty treats knowing that, at the same time, you are supporting an even more fantastic cause. It's one that's close to so many of our hearts, with statistics showing that one in nine women in the UK and one in twelve women in Ireland will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.

Championing the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign couldn't be easier: make a donation to one of the brilliant charities involved, pin on your pink ribbon and take your pick from the gorgeous, limited edition beauty products created especially to support the cause. MumKnowsBest has scoured the counters for some of the most fabulous finds...

Skin savers

Keep your complexion in the pink and support the cause with skincare treats designed to help raise funds for breast cancer charities. Having brought Breast Cancer Awareness Month to the UK sixteen years ago, the Est√©e Lauder Companies mission to help prevent the disease and fund research worldwide has gone from strength to strength (it was founder Est√©e's daughter, Evelyn, who created the non-profit Breast Cancer Research Foundation in 1993). This year, Clinique (one of the Est√©e Lauder brands) is offering a Special Edition Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (¬£35) - the classic, banana milkshake-coloured moisturiser loved the world over - ‛dressed' in pink ribbons (¬£2 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each bottle sold, at Selfridges nationwide).

Meanwhile, Darphin - the French skincare company now also part of the Estée Lauder stable - has created a limited edition of its Arovita C Energic Firming Cream (£46), formulated to rehydrate, nourish and firm the skin, morning and/or night. It comes in a pretty pink jar and pink ribbon-bedecked box (£5 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research programme at the UK Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research. For stockists and mail order, visit www.darphin.co.uk).

Elemis is also supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month with its limited edition, catch-it-while-you-can Essential Beauty Secrets (£50) set. Packaged in a gorgeous, hot pink vanity purse, it contains four, award-winning Elemis products: Pro-Collagen Lifting Treatment Neck and Bust (15 ml), Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (30 ml), Pro-Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream (30 ml) and Papaya Enzyme Peel (15 ml). All you need for a spot of autumn, top-to-toe pampering (Elemis has pledged a donation of £10, 000 to the Breast Cancer Care charity and the set is available at selected saloms, stores and spas, visit www.elemis.com).

Pucker up

Yep, it's the little girl in us again, but we can't resist Clinique's Breast Cancer Awareness Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 Pink Ribbon Charm (£15). This long-lasting tinted gloss is one of the company's most popular products and the limited edition key chain features three great shades of pink and, of course, a pink ribbon charm (£2 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for each key charm sold, at Clinique counters, Boots nationwide and www.boots.com).

Hand-picked by Elizabeth Hurley, who is a passionate supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Estée Lauder's The Elizabeth Hurley Lip Collection (£20) includes a Pure Color Lasting Lipstick in Elizabeth Pink (naturally!), High Gloss in Pink Lady (another limited edition) and Artist's Lip Pencil in Spice Writer, all presented in a hot pink lipstick case (for each collection sold, £5 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research programme at the UK Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research).

MumKnowsBest is a big fan of US make-up artist (and time-crunched mum) Bobbi Brown's make-up range and her inspiringly ‛real' beauty philosophy, so we're thrilled to shout about her limited edition Pink Ribbon Collection (¬£28) featuring an exclusive shade of Bobbi's creamy Lip Color and a Glitter Lip Balm, embossed with the Pink Ribbon logo (Bobbi Brown will donate the entire purchase price of each collection sold, less VAT, to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's research study at the Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research, London. In the Republic of Ireland, it will go the Cancer Clinical Research Trust at Vincent's, Dublin).

The last word in luxe, Crème de la Mer UK & Ireland have created a limited edition Crème de la Mer, The Lip Balm (£35). Designed to soften and protect lips, this beauty insider's favourite comes complete with a pink leather pouch and presented in a white presentation box (£5 from each balm sold will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, available at Harrods, Knightsbridge, and Brown Thomas, Dublin).

Body beautiful

Keeping pins stubble-free when you're in a rush goes glam for a great cause with BIC's BIC Twin Lady Pink Ribbon Foundation Pack (£1.79 for 5 razors). Featuring twin blades and easy-grip handles, the sensitive skin-friendly razors come in a variety of pretty translucent pastel shades, including - of course - pink (available nationwide, throughout October).

Sparkle and shine ...

As every grown-up princess knows, accessories are everything. The next best thing to a pink rhinestone-encrusted tiara, Debenhams' Bling Heart Compact (£10) supports the store's long-time partnership with the Breast Cancer Campaign (available at Debenhams nationwide, while stocks last). Or wear your glitz where it can always be seen with Estée Lauder's Jewelled Pink Ribbon Pin (£10, with all net proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, available nationwide).

Tress relief

Keep your crowning glory shining (or your school run ponytail together - let's be realistic) whilst supporting the Pink Ribbon Foundation with special edition accessories at Paul Mitchell salons nationwide. In sleek black with hot pink plates, the limited edition Vogetti Pink Ice Straightening Irons (£58.95) will help to smooth out seasonal frizzies (£2.50 goes to the charity for each pair sold), while the Pink Paddle Brush (£7.50), in fuchsia, will help to smooth and detangle tresses (75 pence will be donated for each brush sold). But if you purchase the irons, you will get the paddle brush free of charge (for your nearest salon, tel: 0845 659 0012).

Pick up the scent

A perfect fragrance as temperatures fall, Donna Karan's Limited Edition Cashmere Mist Eau de Toilette Spray (£39) is a wonderfully warm, sensual blend of Moroccan jasmine, lily of the valley, bergamot, sandalwood, amber and musk. This charity edition supports Royal Marsden Institute of Cancer Research and comes in an exclusive pink ribbon box (£2 with each bottle sold will be donated to the charity, available nationwide, tel: 0870 034 2566 for stockists).

And relaaax ...

Help to nip an end-of-the-day headache in the bud or de-stress on-the-go with Origins' Peace of Mind On-The-Spot Relief (¬£11) in Breast Cancer Awareness pink (¬£2 from every product sold will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, available nationwide, see www.origins.co.uk). Then, when you get home (and the crew is distracted), get snuggly in a pair of Paul Mitchell's Slipper Socks (¬£7.50, with 75 pence going to the Pink Ribbon Foundation, as before) and listen to some chill-out music on your i-Pod, ‛dressed' in - what else? - Debenhams' Bling i-Pod Cover and Earphones (¬£15, details as before). Putting your feet up never looked so pretty ...
