Great Inns of Britain

Great Inns of Britain

Autumn is the time for comfort food, so plan a romantic break for October or November at one of the wonderful Great Inns of Britain, 21 historic British inns across the country, all of which are showcasing a fabulous array of dishes that use Great British Beers, Ales & Liqueurs on their menus. The chef at each inn will choose an exclusive selection of dishes to reflect the regional specialities and produce in that area. For example, at the Michelin-starred Yorke Arms in Ramsgill (www.yorke-arms.co.uk), you can sample hearty ‛Black Sheep Nidderdale Mutton, Hot Lentils & Roots, served with Quince Relish', while the The Boar's Head at Ripley Castle (www.boarsheadripley.co.uk) has unearthed a true blast from the past, serving up ‛Game & Crackshot Ale Casserole'.

If recipes based on beer sound a bit butch, check out the fantastic puddings instead, such as ‛Pecan Pie served with Thwaites Original Bitter Ice Cream' at the Millstone at Mellor (www.millstonehotel.co.uk) in Saddleworth, Lancashire, or ‛Autumn Bramble Pudding with Homemade Sloe Gin' at Ye Olde Bull's Head (www.bullsheadinn.co.uk) in Beaumaris, Anglesey. Bikini season is, after all, a long way off now! www.greatinns.co.uk.
