Why Sweet and Not Savour?

Chocolate Pudding

Despite all my best attempts my 7 month old son still won't eat as much when I present him with a savoury meal as he will if I give him something sweet like fruit or puddings. Is there anything I can do to change this?

We are genetically programmed to prefer sweet tasting foods therefore babies will often eat more if they are presented with a sweet desert compared to a savoury preparation. However, this doesn't mean you should offer more sweet than savoury. Keep persevering with the vegetable based foods to ensure your child develops a varied palette and try not to worry too much about the quantity that your son eats in one meal. Babies are remarkably adept at making sure they consume enough calories to fulfill their needs so even if they eat less at one meal you can be sure they will make up for it elsewhere throughout the day.
