Travelling with Grumpy Kids

Did you think you were alone in whinging about travel with children? You're not!

According to a recent TripAdvisor survey (from www.tripadvisor.com), 71% of parents are in favour of child-free zones on aircraft - and 88% of the total number questioned. Makes you wonder where these parents would sit and who would care for their children...

Almost one in two Britons with school-age children allows their child to miss school in order to take family holidays during term-time; 49% of parents had no qualms about taking children out of school for at least one day a year, while 16% allow their children to miss seven days or more.

When it comes to entertaining children during a journey, 47% of parents turn to a TV or DVD player to entertain their offspring, 18% encourage their children to read books and 11% rely on the appeal of new toys.

A further 3% resort to the hard stuff - over-the-counter children's medicine, which surprisingly, constitutes a more popular solution than sweets (1%).

Finally, 54% of mothers maintain that their children and partner complain an equal amount on holiday and 51% believe that their partner and children are equally as difficult to please. Makes you wonder why people travel at all!
