Teenage blues

STEM4 provides relevant and accurate information, support, advice and education to teenagers, their friends, parents and carers on the early identification and prevention in four key areas of teenage mental health: eating disorders, depression, self harm, and addiction. The dedicated Depression pages on the website now explain exactly what depression is, what the specific causes of teenage depression are and give lots of practical advice and tips on how teenagers can identify if they are depressed and how they can combat this debilitating illness, including the ‘four steps to change’. There is also advice for the friends of troubled teens, their families and carers, and for schools including a comprehensive list of resources

Consultant Clinical Psychologist and founder of STEM4, Dr Nihara Krause says: 'Depression is a very common consequence of a combination of difficulties - including negotiating the changes and challenges of teenage years, low self esteem, upsetting relationships and life experiences. There are several effective treatments for depression so knowing what to do for the best early on can have very positive outcome"
